After difficult financial years and a large budget for racing, Maserati urgently needed an attractive road car at the end of the 1950s to get back into the black. This was achieved with the 3500 GT Coupé, which was first presented at the Geneva Show in 1957. It featured a modified version of the six-cylinder engine from the successful 350S and was initially equipped with 12-inch drum brakes and a Salisbury rear axle. It was an exciting combination of a powerful engine with a sporty yet comfortable chassis. Customers demanded an open-top version of the Type 3500 GT, and Maserati commissioned Frua and Touring to produce a design study. The race was won by a third party, however, and Maserati opted for the Vignale body, drawn by Giovanni Michelotti. From 1959-1964, a total of only 242 examples were produced. This example was delivered on 18.01.1961 to the Italian Giovanni Mori in the colors Grigio Metallizzato and leather Connolly Marrone. In the name and on behalf of a well-known Italian collector, a complete restoration was commissioned at Luigino Tommasin's Quality Cars near Padua. Maserati expert Dr. Adolfo Orsi was consulted to guide the restoration. The extensive restoration was documented with invoices and pictures. The car subsequently made its debut at the Villa d'Este Concours in 2010. This Vignale Spyder has now been registered with our customer base in Germany for approximately 10 years.
