I. History of the model

The Giulia Familiare, also called « Promiscua », was produced by several coachbuilders, mainly the workshops of Colli, Grazia and Giorgetti, built in very limited numbers. The « Polizia Stradale » used it and there was also an ambulance version. There are various subtleties between the different versions, the most visible ones being the tailgate.

II. The model

Straderial is pleased to present a particularly exceptional automobile, that of an Alfa Romeo Giulia Super in a rare special bodywork transformed at the time by the Giorgetti house for the needs of the Polizia Stradale! Following a complete restoration, the car benefits from all the ultimate improvements thanks to the specialist Alfaholics who made it possible to equip this car with the best parts, most of which come from the GTA-R range.

According to Alfa Romeo records, this copy left the factory on October 18, 1972 and was sold to « Societa Autostrade » in Rome, Italy. It is understood that it was used by the Polizia Stradale as evidenced by the additional police gear fitted in the original dashboard (kept with the car) and the police siren which remains fitted!

It was during the ‘Solo Alfa’ sale during the 2014 edition of the Retromobile show that the car made its appearance to the general public. The car looked extremely authentic and just as tired. It required a complete overhaul. It will be under these circumstances that an absolutely extraordinary project will see the light of day.

Thus will begin a restoration of great omen over more than 4 years. About 2 years will be devoted to the complete recovery of the bodywork and the partial reassembly. The last 2 will be the opportunity to carry out a complete preparation by equipping this car at Alfaholics with a very large part of the GTA-R catalog. The amount of parts without counting the labor is more than 70,000 euros! This makes it possible to imagine the result which in our opinion has reached perfection. This car is even more incredible to drive than to look at, and yet at Straderial it has become customary. This copy being at the base of a real rarity, becomes a unique model cultivating originality and perfection in all technical aspects as well as in presentation.

The body has been completely stripped and any corrosion cut off and replaced with new formed metal or new panels if necessary. The car was repainted in its original color « Polizia Stradale Green ».

The original engine has been removed and kept to make way for a brand new Alfaholics block, a piece of goldsmith’s work largely drawn from the technical heritage of the GTAs. The power is then increased to 185 horsepower and remains perfectly usable in all conditions. The latter allows you to drive in town as well as on a circuit. Such a car arouses admiration.

In this set Alfaholics notably provided GTA short ratio gearbox kit with new internals, Alfaholics racing differential, GTA-R brake kit with aviation brake lines, GTA- suspension kit- R with adjustable front threaded combination springs and rose articulated linkages, mounted on lightweight GTA 7 × 15 wheels.

The interior is in a wonderful setting with subtle details. It is entirely dressed in leathers from the renowned Dutch specialist HVL. The skins used are among the finest and are the ones that fitted the Ferraris of the same period. The dashboard has been cut in ‘Mousehair’ giving the cockpit a very plush and luxurious effect. In the past, cars had the duty to be as beautiful as they were fast. The whole is developed in this philosophy. The Hellobore steering wheel and the GTA seats are a perfect reminder of this.

World renowned specialist Alfaholics supplied 99% of the parts and invoices on file show over £ 70K spent on parts not even counting labor. Literally everything has been replaced and upgraded on this car with the best Alfaholics components. The result is absolutely splendid and this car is able to join the most beautiful collections!
