Description

The Ferrari Dino 246 is an iconic sports car that holds a special place in automotive history. Introduced in 1969, it was named after Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredo ‘Dino’ Ferrari, who played a significant role in the development of Ferrari’s V6 engines. The Dino 246 is renowned for its sleek design and impressive performance. Under the hood of the Dino 246 resides a mid-mounted 2.4-liter V6 engine. This compact and powerful engine was a groundbreaking innovation at the time, featuring dual overhead camshafts and 3 Weber carburetors, producing 195 horsepower. The design of the Dino 246 was done by Pininfarina. Mr. Fioravanti created a masterpiece with the Dino 246, showcasing a timeless silhouette that still turns heads today. The car’s aerodynamic lines, curved contours, and the signature shark gills on the sides blend together to create an instantly recognizable and captivating design. After Ferrari had reached the high-end market, it was time for Ferrari to dominate the more affordable and accessible sports car market as well. The Ferrari 206 and 246 Dino had to compete with the Porsche 911 2 Litre and the Porsche 911 2.4 Litre, respectively. The creation of the Dino 246 was a collaborative effort between Ferrari and Fiat. Ferrari partnered with Fiat to share resources and expertise. The Dino 246 was manufactured at the Turin-based Fiat factory, with Ferrari overseeing the production and final assembly. The Ferrari Dino 246 represents an era of transition for Ferrari, as it was the first mid-engined production car to wear the prancing horse badge. The new era of V6 engines was very successful for Ferrari, achieving considerable success on the track, winning numerous championships and races, including the Targa Florio and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
