May my enemies live long enough to see my success Launched in 1980, the Ferrari Mondial took over from the 308GT4. It had the same V8 engine in the middle, but on a longer wheelbase. Instead of Bertone’s striking style, the Pininfarina-designed Mondial was like an elegant Italian symphony of cortesia: better equipped, more comfortable, with real 2+2 seats (which Ferrari admits are especially suitable for children and small adults) and still good for 140 mph. The 6-or also called ‘QV’ – delivered from 1982 onwards – has four valves per cylinder instead of two. The power output of the 2.9-litre V8 rose from 214 to 240 hp due to this upgrade. The finishing touch people secretly longed for. The Mondial 8 is still considered one of Ferrari’s most reliable, cheap to maintain and practical models. And that’s just good news. Is the Mondial a real Ferrari? Yes, and the Quattrovalvole especially so. As soon as you get in, you notice that all the bells are shaped around the driver and the eight-cylinder, behind your back, gives off a lovely sound. When you bring it to life, you can hear the cooling water sloshing and the petrol pump humming. Ingegneria Emozionale! The prancing Modena-ros has 240 hp and a dogleg 5-speed gearbox, perfectly matched. Today, the Mondial QV is more desirable by the minute. Something about jump on board and don’t miss this opportunity later you’ll regret…. And ours? In the best colour combination Rosso Corsa with beige leather on the inside. Largely in possession of its first coat of paint. It has driven just 20 thousand miles, which makes it a true collector’s item. As Enzo himself used to say: ‘Too much is not enough’.
